The problems of Nuclear Energy (Safety, security of stockpile etc.) overwhelms the advantages. We should keep on using it only for research (clean fusion, medicine etc) until it will be safe for all generations to come.

China is rapidly building Gen III reactors and like previous roll outs of Gen II’s, construction costs will come down. Also, the USA is investing in small modular reactor designs which will offer great potential for Australia to consider replacing some aging coal plants when they come to their end of life, and also possibly in remote areas. “Not at the moment” maybe wise but we should be ready for nuclear reactors in 10-15 years. We should overturn the legislative ban on nuclear energy now so it can compete on its merits against other options. We should encourage R&D and community engagement; especially in those that are seeing substantial economic and industrial transition at the moment.
